Manufacturing-Finishing
The
casting finishing operation at Michigan Steel, which encompasses a broad
range of requirements, consists of a 72,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art finishing
facility capable of handling castings from a few ounces to 3000 lbs. The facility is able to perform all
casting inspections, upgrading and heat treating in-house. Michigan Steel routinely supplies its customers with rough or
finished machined castings. The state-of-the art finishing facility
is divided into areas which handle castings by size.
Welders
are certified
to a variety of specifications including ASTM A488 and ASME Section
IX. The welding methods used at Michigan Steel include SMAW and MIG
TIG. Michigan Steel has over 30 qualified weld procedures and
typically retains 5 to10 qualified welders on staff.
The
surface finish requirements of castings are accomplished by a combination
of machining and blasting operations either by hand or in one of the large
shot blast machines. |
